NQ150 Key safety features
The molten-lead coolant:
- is in nearly atmospheric operating pressure
- is chemically inert with air and water
- has a very high boiling temperature providing large safety margins
- confines most of the volatile fission products in case they leak from the fuel
- provides excellent shielding against gamma radiation
